Rally for a cure!

A lot of teams need to rally for a win right now (Cavs lost last night 88-120) but one team needs support from their fans more than any other:

TEAM PORTER'S SUPPORTERS!
The Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis is this Saturday
and it's not too late to donate to
help CF stand for
CURE FOUND.
Get your rally caps and let's do this!
Click DONATE NOW on the right!
Please help find a cure for her cousin.
I had to bribe her with a sucker to get this picture and I'm not above bribing you with one either.
You know you like those Blow Pops.

Word to my mutha.

This could very easily turn into a sappy post about how awesome I think my mom is. I'll try avoid writing anything that would call for eye rolling and just hit some highlights that I've been thinking about lately.
  • She is the coupon queen. She taught me everything I know about being frugal and instilled in me a love for the Grocery Outlet (or Aldi). "Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without."
  • She invites the single ward members to Easter dinner.
  • When I call to vent, she tells me it's going to be okay. And it always is.
  • When I call to celebrate, she gets excited with me. Even when it's just that Jenna has stayed dry all day and Callie is holding her own bottle.
  • She makes the best white enchiladas ever.
  • She is ALWAYS right. Something I learned a long time ago but didn't always admit.
  • She plays a mean game of boggle. It's actually kind of pointless to play the game with her unless you enjoy losing.
  • She does not hold my teenage years against me.
  • She is the best at making people feel loved. I hope we do okay at making her feel the same way. An eyeroll here wouldn't be entirely inappropriate. But I still mean it.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom.

Lessons from Troy and Gabriella.

Don't let her fool you.
Most of Monday looked like this...

It was one of those "We're-having-Chipotle-for-dinner-and-the-girls-are-going-to-bed-at-6:30" days. An "I-can't-do-this-I-quit-and-I-just-want-to-browse-the-aisles-at-Target-for-hours-by-myself-and-have-a-huge-bowl-of-ice cream-afterwards" kind of days.

Not only is Callie cutting her upper teeth, but she's just getting over a double ear infection which spells MISERY for all of us. But nothing seemed to go right on Monday. I've hashed out the details to most people who read this blog, including Angela, the poor girl who lives upstairs and knows us as The Loud Family. But let's just say the day involved a broken computer charger, falling out of the stroller, falling out of the bumbo seat, some scraped knees, tantrums, hours of crying and no naps. Oh man, did I want to quit.

And then we listened to High School Musical 3. Ya gotta love those kids. They're so full of wisdom and they're only 17. The songs are terribly cheesey (as is the the whole HSM trilogy) but one song sorta took on a new meaning for me on my terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

It's like catching lightning
The chances of finding someone like you.
It's one in a million
the chances of feeling the way we do.
And with every step together,
We just keep on getting better.

Because sometimes doesn't it seem like you are the only who could ever feel the way you do about your kids? Like it's just impossible to feel that much love for someone? And one crummy day doesn't change that. A hundred crummy days doesn't change that. We pick ourselves up, get over the drama and keep moving on. We're a little more patient (maybe) and a we love a little better. And we don't really want to quit, at least not permanently. Maybe just for a couple hours. At Target.

So thanks Wildcats, for reminding me that when it comes down to it, we're all in this together.
